Hutan Simpan Gunung Tebu (Gunung Tebu Forest Reserve) is a pristine tropical rainforest sanctuary located in the central highlands of Terengganu, Malaysia. This protected area represents one of the state's most important conservation sites, spanning over 8,000 hectares of undisturbed primary and secondary forest that serves as a critical habitat for endangered species and a living laboratory for tropical rainforest research.
The forest reserve is characterized by its mountainous terrain, crystal-clear streams, ancient trees, and remarkable biodiversity. Getting to Gunung Tebu
By Car (Required)
From Kuala Terengganu: 4WD vehicle required via Hulu Terengganu → Tasik Kenyir → Forest Access Road (2.5-3 hours)
From Kuala Lumpur: Via Karak Highway → Kuantan → Kuala Terengganu → Forest Access (6-7 hours)
Only accessible with authorized guides.
From Kuala Terengganu
Drive inland via Hulu Terengganu road toward Tasik Kenyir area. The final access road requires 4WD vehicle and local guide. Advance booking through registered operators is mandatory for all visits.
Guided Access Only
All visits must be arranged through licensed operators with Forest Department permits. Independent access is strictly prohibited to protect the ecosystem. Transportation, guides, and permits are included in tour packages.
